NFL Notes: Bills, Giants, Redskins, & Texans

Bills

  • Vic Carucci said of Bills QB EJ Manuel: “There has been nothing at camp that indicates that EJ Manuel is in the competition to be the starting quarterback.” (Sirius XM NFL Radio)

Giants

  • Art Stapleton reports that Giants S Nat Berhe will undergo surgery on his injured calf Friday.
  • Stapleton adds that Berhe’s status for the 2015 season remains undecided, but placing him on injured reserve is considered “likely.”
  • There’s still a chance that the Giants could use their short-term injured reserve designation on him, but that has yet to be decided, according to Stapleton.

Redskins

  • Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) has been officially cleared by an independent neurologist to play in Saturday’s preseason game.

Texans

  • John McClain reports that Texans backup QB Ryan Mallett missed Thursday’s practice because he overslept.
  • However, Mallett did show up later for team meetings and is expected to be at practice on Friday.
  • McClain adds that Mallett will almost certainly be fined for oversleeping and missing practice, even though the team may not admit it.
