NFL Notes: Bills, Jaguars, Saints

Bills

  • The Buffalo Bills announced Sunday that they’ve hired Dolphins Director of Player Personnel Joe Schoen as their new assistant General Manager.

Jaguars

Jaguars HC Doug Marrone explained that they aren’t just going to hand first-round RB Leonard Fournette a starting role this summer because of his draft status.

Obviously when we made the pick we were thinking about [how] he can be someone like that,” Marrone said, via Michael DiRocco of ESPN. “Obviously he’s shown that ability, but at the same sense, when you have the team, the one thing about a team is you have to earn that. So he’s going to have to go and show that he has to do that.”

Fournette was reluctant to say he’s automatically going to step in and be the guy right from the get go.

“I’m not going to automatically say that,” Fournette said. “I have to still learn from the vets. I know T.J., I know Chris. I’ve known them since I was in high school. Just go in there under those guys, learning from them as much as I can.”

Saints

Saints HC Sean Payton mentioned that they think C Max Unger could be back and playing during Week 3 of the preseason, despite a report that he could possibly open the year on the PUP list after a foot injury.

“I see him possibly being able to get into the preseason,” Payton said, via Mike Triplett of ESPN. “Our goal would be Week 3 (of the preseason). So that’s where he’s at. It wasn’t anything new, and yet we were hoping the rest would help it out. … We’re getting ahead of it.”
