NFL Notes: Bills, Jets, Panthers, Saints

Bills

  • Bills HC Sean McDermott told reporters that it is still “up in the air” whether starting QB Tyrod Taylor (concussion) will be ready to play in their season opener against the Jets. (Joe Buscaglia)
  • Taylor remains in the concussions protocol, but McDermott says he is getting “better.”
  • According to McDermott, rookie QB Nathan Peterman “is ready” to start if need be and he added: “We’re confident in Nathan.” (Vic Carucci)

Jets

  • Aaron Wilson reports that the Jets have signed DL Patrick Gamble to their practice squad.

Panthers

Panthers HC Ron Rivera said he believes QB Cam Newton is ready to go for the start of the season, despite the fact that he was limited during the preseason due to the shoulder surgery he underwent this offseason.

“I think he’s ready,” Rivera said, via David Newton of ESPN.com. “You wish he’d had a few more snaps and played a little bit earlier in the preseason so we’d have more to go on. But what we saw, we liked.

“We liked how everything seems to be meshing together as an offense. We’ll see how it goes as we continue to work this week.”

Saints

Saints RB Adrian Peterson says he’s hoping to “stick it to” his former team in Week 1 when they take on the Vikings.

In my mind, we’re starting and ending the season in Minnesota,” Peterson said, via the Star-Tribune. “Of course I want to stick it to them. I want to stick it to everyone we play. But going back to Minnesota, playing the Vikings? Yeah, I want to stick it to them.”
