NFL Notes: Broncos, Bills, Chiefs, Chargers, Jets, & Raiders

Bills

Mike Rodak of ESPN.com doesn’t see the Bills having any room for WR T.J. Graham now that they have brought in Mike Williams in a trade and moved up to select Sammy Watkins.

  • Rodak also leaves veteran OT Erik Pears off of his projected 53-man roster with rookie Cyrus Kouandjio taking his place.
  • Rodak expects a combination of Preston Brown and Nigel Bradham to replace LB Kiko Alonso who underwent successful surgery Thursday to repair his torn left ACL, according to Steve Caric.

Broncos

Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com has two undrafted rookie running backs —  Brennan Clay and Juwan Thompson — making the Broncos’ final 53-man roster.

This means, C.J. Anderson would be the odd-man-out in this scenario.

  • Legwold does’t have S Duke Ihenacho on his projected roster as he believes Ihenacho will have a harder time making the team this year.
  • Legwold also left off veteran TE Joel Dreessen.

Chargers

Eric D. Williams of ESPN.com has the Chargers keeping just four cornerbacks with veteran Richard Marshall on the outside looking in.

Williams mentions that Marshall’s salary isn’t guaranteed, so unless he puts together a very solid training camp, he could be left off the team’s roster.

Chiefs

Adam Teicher of ESPN.com projects QB Tyler Bray to beat out fifth-round pick Aaron Murray for the Chiefs third-string job.

“[The Chiefs] didn’t draft [Murray] to release him, so he could go on the injured reserve list,” writes Teicher.

  • Teicher has the Chiefs keeping four running backs, which leaves Cyrus Gray and Joe McKnight on the roster bubble.

Jets

Rich Cimini of ESPN NewYork doesn’t have either Daryl Richardson or Alex Green securing a roster spot in his projected 53-man roster.

  • Cimini does admit that either player could convince the team keep a fifth running back on their roster during training camp and in the preseason.
  • Cimini adds that the health of Chris Johnson‘s knee could play a role in either player making the team.
  • Cimini mentions that 2014 will be a “huge year” for  former first-round pick Quentin Coples.
  • Ras-I Dowling is a somewhat notable omission.

Raiders

Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com writes that the addition of LB Khalil Mack has made veteran LB Kevin Burnett expendable.

Gutierrez has Oakland keeping six linebackers, but projects Burnett to be a roster cut.

This idea has been proposed by Gutierrez in the past, so it really shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.

Burnett, 31, signed a two-year deal worth $5.25 million, which included a $1.285 million signing bonus.

Last year, 103 tackles, 2.5 sacks, an interceptions, three forced fumbles and a recovery. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 24 outside linebacker in a 4-3 system out of 35 qualifying players.
