NFL Notes: Broncos, Cardinals, Dolphins

Broncos

According to Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post, the Broncos and VP John Elway have maintained dialogue recently regarding a new contract for him. However, there’s still no indication that a deal imminent at this point in time.

Elway has previously made it clear that he plans to be a part of the team moving forward and that a deal will eventually get worked out.

“I look forward to being here with the Broncos for a long time,” Elway said a few months ago.

This will always be my home,” Elway said. “(I’m) not going anywhere. As a kid, I moved around quite a bit. But, Colorado and Denver will always be my home.

Cardinals

Cardinals S Tyrann Mathieu believes he is the best defensive player in the NFL when he is healthy.

I’m feeling great, it will be a great year for us,” Mathieu said, via Nicholas McGee of SportingNews. “Any time I’m healthy I feel like I’m the best defensive player in the NFL.

Mathieu said the Cardinals are one of “five or six” teams that are capable of winning a Super Bowl this season.

If we can just correct a few small things we’ll be a dominant team again. It’ll be five or six teams that definitely have a shot to win a Super Bowl and I do believe the Cardinals are one of those teams,” said Mathieu.

Dolphins

  • Dolphins second-year QB Brandon Doughty believes he should have a spot on the active roster: “I was drafted for a reason. It’s because people believe I’m an NFL quarterback.” (Barry Jackson)
  • Jackson thinks veteran free agent G Orlando Franklin would “welcome” interest from the Dolphins. However, Miami has yet to bring him in for a visit.
