NFL Notes: Broncos, Chiefs, Colts, & Cowboys

Broncos

Chiefs

  • Jason La Canfora reports that of the players franchise tagged this offseason, Chiefs LB Justin Houston is the most likely to receive a long-term deal before Wednesday’s deadline for tagged players to sign.
  • According to La Canfora, the Chiefs and Houston made significant progress towards a new deal, but he still considers the odds of an agreement to be “50-50” at this point in time.

Colts

  • Colts head coach Chuck Pagano says that the team will have to be “smart” while bringing LB Robert Mathis back from his ruptured Achilles he suffered last season. (Kevin Bowen)
  • Mathis remains a candidate for the reserve/PUP list, despite vowing to be ready for Week 1.

Cowboys

  • With Cowboys WR Dez Bryant‘s well documented off-the-field issues, the team may be more inclined to head into the season with him on the cheaper franchise tag, CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reports.
  • Rand Getlin of NFL Media clarifies that Bryant intends to hold out of training camp and the regular season if no agreement is in place.
