NFL Notes: Broncos, Colts, Eagles, Patriots

Broncos

  • Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post writes that the Broncos signing Patriots’ impending free agent LT Nate Soldercould be in the cards” for Denver, should he reach the free agent market.
  • Jhabvala notes that Solder is a native of Denver and that he could sign on the open market for a “hefty price” after making $10 million in 2017.
  • According to Jhabvala, Broncos RT Menelik Watson returning to a starting role is “hardly guaranteed.

Colts

  • According to Ian Rapoport, the Colts have signed former Dolphins OL coach Dave DeGuglielmo to the same position in Indianapolis.

Eagles

Eagles’ VP of player personnel Joe Douglas said that he will be back with the franchise next season, despite the possibility of drawing interest around the NFL as a general manager.

It’s something I’ll probably address later,” Douglas said, via Jeff McLane. “I think everybody in this position is confident in their abilities. But I couldn’t be happier.

Eagles executive Howie Roseman explained the team’s decision to deny the Texans’ request to interview Douglas for their GM job by saying: “I think the way that the league rules are is that during the season it’s not expected that you’re allowing people to interviewThat’s the way rules are written, and we’re going to abide by the way the rules are written. Joe’s a valuable member of our organization. We love having him in Philadelphia.”

Patriots

Patriots LBs coach Brian Flores, who is expected to take over for Matt Patricia as the team’s defensive coordinator, explained that a lot went into him making it this far in coaching.

You work so hard for so long,” Flores said, via NBC Boston. “This is my 14th year here. I’ve put in a lot of hours. A lot of time. Worked on my craft. A lot of people would say they are infinitely a great coach; I wasn’t. I had to work at this. I’ve gotten better year after year after year. That’s kind of been the hallmark of me as a coach and what kind of coach I want to be. I’ll continue to do that and we’ll see where it all ends up.”

Flores wouldn’t offer much in regards to whether or not he’ll be promoted to defensive coordinator.

“Well again, we’ve got a lot of great coaches on this staff,” said Flores. “We’ll see how that goes. I think they’re all capable if Matt goes…if he [Josh] goes. Hopefully, he doesn’t.”

“I’m gonna do what’s best for the team. If that means getting coffee and dry cleaning – which I’ve done – if that means getting water, I’ll do whatever is best for the team, whatever coach feels is best for the team.”
