NFL Notes: Browns, Colts, Seahawks

Browns

  • Albert Breer says it would be a mistake to ignore rookie QB DeShone Kizer’s strong showing this spring during offseason workouts.
  • Breer gets the sense that Kizer has already proven to be the team’s most talented quarterback and should be in the mix to win the starting job during training camp.

Colts

Colts GM Chris Ballard singled out wide receiver and defensive line as two areas he’s excited about as the team prepares for training camp.

“I’m excited about the receiver position,” Ballard said, via Colts.com“That third, fourth and fifth spot, there’s going to be some heavy competition for who gets playing time.”

The Colts have T.Y Hilton and Donte Moncrief in line to be their top receivers, which leaves Kamar Aiken, Phillip Dorsett and Chester Rogers among the players competing for playing time.

Indianapolis also brought in a number of front-seven defenders in an attempt to overhaul their defense for the 2017 season.

“I’m excited about our front seven,” Ballard added. “I think we’ve upgraded. I think we are physical, our bigger. We’ve got some good athletes at the position. I’m very encouraged by the front seven.”

Seahawks

The Seahawks are expecting a fierce competition at running back during training camp between a deep group of players with diverse skill sets.

“I think it’s an exciting group,” Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said, via Pro Football Talk. “We’ve never been this strong with this many guys who can compete and do things. We have a variety of different guys that have different strengths that they bring.”

“Once we’re able to go past those first two days (of training camp) and get the pads on and start to be able to get to the combative part of the game, then we’ll learn more,” Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell said. “We like how they’re running, we like how they’re moving around. We have a good feel for how they hit holes and the vision that they have, but there’s still another step to come.
