NFL Notes: Browns, Cowboys, Seahawks, Texans

Browns

  • Browns executive VP Sashi Brown told reporters on Monday that they’re looking forward to speaking with newly reinstated WR Josh Gordon this week. (Mary Kay Cabot)
  • In regards to the raise they gave LT Joe Thomas, Brown explained that it was something they were discussing for weeks prior to his injury, and ultimately felt it was the right thing to do. (Nate Ulrich)
  • Brown said of the reported issues between the front office and the coaching staff: “I’m not gonna sugarcoat anything. Last week was a tough week for us, from a PR perspective.” (Albert Breer)
  • As for why they were unable to complete the trade for Bengals QB A.J. McCarron, Brown said it was “a lot simpler than what’s been written” and they “tried everything possible to get it done.” (Mary Kay Cabot)
  • According to Brown, it’s wholly untrue that the front office sabotaged the McCarron trade. (Nate Ulrich)
  • Brown was asked about passing on Carson Wentz and Deshaun Watson, to which he said: “My hats off to Wentz and Watson, a lot of teams passed on Russell Wilson too.” (Mary Kay Cabot)

Cowboys

  • Cowboys VP Stephen Jones mentioned during an interview with 105.3 The Fan that DT Brian Price (knee) could be out for the season with a knee injury. (Jon Machota)
  • Jones added that they would, obviously, need to bring in another defensive tackle if their suspicions are confirmed.

Seahawks

  • Seahawks HC Pete Carroll mentioned during a radio appearance on 710 ESPN in Seattle that they will not be bringing in kickers for tryouts this week after Blair Walsh missed three field goals. Carroll noted Walsh was 12-13 entering Sunday’s game. (Bob Condotta)
  • According to Carroll, DT Sheldon Richardson (oblique) is uncertain to play in Week 10, even though he has made some progress. (Brady Henderson)
  • Carroll added that RB C.J. Prosise (ankle) is ready to return this week and DE Dion Jordan (knee) has a chance to be activated for their game on Thursday.
  • Regarding newly acquired LT Duane Brown‘s performance, Carroll said: “He played really well. He was really good… Solid as a rock.” (John Boyle)

Texans

Following Sunday’s loss to the Colts, Texans QB Tom Savage told reporters that it was “probably the most frustrating game of my life.

“It’s probably the most frustrating game of my life,” Savage said, via the Houston Chronicle. “It’s just one of those deals that I just wasn’t making the throws and guys were open. I’m not going to give you the politically correct answer and say like blah blah blah we can get better. No, I have to make the throws. I played like crap. That’s what it is.
