NFL Notes: Browns, Eagles, Seahawks, Kaepernick

Browns

  • Pat McManamon of ESPN writes that it’s too early to assume newly acquired S Calvin Pryor will even make the team this summer, given that they still need to see what he can do and used a first-round pick on Jabrill Peppers.

Eagles

In his latest mailbag, Jimmy Kempski takes a look at some of the Eagles’ 2018 free agents and whether they could return next year.

  • Kempski believes the Eagles will make it a priority to lock up WR Alshon Jeffery long term if he can produce for them this year.
  • Kempski anticipates RB Ryan Mathews being released at some point in the coming months.
  • According to Kempski, the expectation for RB Darren Sproles is that he’ll retire after this year.
  • Kempski mentions that the LeGarrette Blount signing “feels like a one-year Band-Aid” move.
  • In regards to WR Jordan Matthews, Kempski could see a team other than the Eagles offering him more money than Philadelphia will be willing to spend on him next year.
  • Kempski doesn’t think the Eagles would have traded for DT Timmy Jernigan a few months ago if they didn’t want to keep him beyond the 2017 season. With this in mind, thinks Philadelphia will try to get a deal worked out with Jernigan.

Seahawks

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said Friday that there’s nothing imminent with free agent QB Colin Kaepernick after his recent visit to Seattle.

“Colin’s been a fantastic football player and he’s going to continue to be,” Carroll said, via Pro Football Talk. “At this time, we didn’t do anything with it. We know where he is, who he is and we had a chance to understand him much more so. He’s a starter in this league and I can’t imagine somebody won’t give him a chance to play.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
