NFL Notes: Browns, Eagles, & Titans

Browns

Adam Schefter writes that the Browns are getting closer to losing C Alex Mack to another team in free agency thanks in large part to the contract Mack signed with the Jaguars.

Jacksonville gave Mack a no-trade clause that prevented him being dealt to another team before the deadline unless he approved the deal. On top of that the Browns can’t use either their franchise or transition tag on Mack next year.

Even though Mack’s contract has another three years and $24 million, the agreement can be voided next year if Mack wants, which will allow him to test the open market again.

Schefter mentions that the Browns are well aware of the fact that Mack could be playing elsewhere and have taken measures to ensure that they have a replacement in place by using a first-round pick on Cameron Erving.

Eagles

  • Adam Schefter points out that Sam Bradford will likely have played 50 percent of the Eagles’ snaps this season if he finishes Week 9’s game, which will allow the Rams to keep their 2016 fourth-round pick as part of the trade involving Bradford and Nick Foles.
  • This pick being sent to the Eagles was conditional upon the percentage of the team’s snaps Bradford played this season.

Titans

Chris Mortensen reports that former Titans HC Ken Whisenhunt didn’t endear himself to those inside the building, and had a “my-way-or-the-highway mentality.”

Beyond that, Mortensen’s source said Whisenhunt had people in the building “on eggshells.”

Sources around the league ultimately believe the team will be sold, and stressed the importance of having local ownership to Mortensen.

Mortensen provides a communication from a “prominent” Titans’ supporter:

As a suite-holder, it’s a disgrace to this city! Every aspect. The stadium, the food, the marketing, the game ops, every aspect is AWFUL. It’s one thing to have a bad product but it’s fun to go to a game with your family. Not the case here!!! It’s a freakin’ joke!!! Too cool a city to have such a poor effort. Worst run organization I’ve ever seen!!!! As a season ticket holder…PLEASSSE tell me we can get a new owner!!!
