NFL Notes: Buccaneers, Cardinals, Colts

Buccaneers

Former Cardinals QB Carson Palmer explained during an appearance on NFL Network that Bruce Arians‘ offense should be a great fit for Jameis Winston.

“They’re going to be great together,” Palmer said, via NFL.com. “It’s probably the best thing that could’ve happen to Jameis at this point in his career. Getting a guy like B.A. to come in and clean up some things technically. And really installing what he does best and that’s push the ball down the field.

“He finds ways to get the ball down the field to Mike Evans with DeSean Jackson there and speed on the outside. His passing game, his vertical passing game is just different. It’s hard to defend. You don’t see it throughout the league. Every team doesn’t do what he does. That combined with the way that Jameis can throw the ball down the field with accuracy, I think it’s a great tandem.”

Cardinals

  • Mike Klis reports that the Cardinals have hired former Broncos DBs coach Greg Williams as their new DBs coach.

Colts

Colts HC Frank Reich explained that the decision to fire OL coach Dave DeGuglielmo came down to there being some “odd dynamics” and his desire to hire his own OL coach.

“After the season, you know, just decided to part ways with Guge,” Reich said, via Colts.com. “And that was really hard, because I so much respect Guge as a person and as a coach. You know, he played a significant role in us coming in here and the success we had. And it’s hard — it’s hard to explain. It was really odd dynamics the way that he and I got connected, and it’s no reflection on him or anything; it’s just when I had envisioned getting this position, you know, there’s certain things that you just are looking for, in ways that you just want to have ‘my guy,’ for lack of a better way to say. You always envision bringing in the guy that you had envisioned bringing in. But certainly appreciate the contribution Guge made, and I told him that, and love and respect him.”
