NFL Notes: Buccaneers, Chiefs, Cowboys & Rams

Buccaneers

  • Buccaneers HC Dirk Koetter tells Alex Marvez that WR Josh Huff will play in Sunday’s game against the Saints.
  • According to Koetter, RB Charles Sims (knee, injured reserve) could be back “sooner than later.

Chiefs

  • Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson plans to undergo surgery for a torn Achilles but doesn’t expect the injury to end his NFL career. “I will play again,” Johnson said, per Ed Werder.

Cowboys

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he doesn’t expect Tony Romo to see any mop-up duty this year to “knock the rust off.

“Certainly I don’t want to knock the rust off and risk injury,” Jones said on the G-Bag Nation show, via the Dallas Morning News. “As sharp as he looks in practice, there’s no rust I’m interested in knocking off.

“He’s so sharp out there [in practice] it’s unbelievable. He picks it apart.

Rams

Rams HC Jeff Fisher responded to the report that his relationship with GM Les Snead is “toxic” on Friday by saying he plans to find out who the source was.

“When you’re 4-8, people are frustrated, you know, they’re frustrated,” Fisher said, via Pro Football Talk. “We’ll find out where it’s coming from.”

“Honestly, I don’t know where this came from,” Fisher continued. “I’ll find out. In our business, unnamed sources, they’re not good. If we’ve got sources within the organization that are speaking, then we’ll address it. But there are no issues between Les and I – by no means. We agree to disagree and we’ve had a fun run, but we’re certainly disappointed – as I said on Tuesday – in the outcome and where we are. We’ve got work to do, but we’re doing it together.”

In regards to the nickname referring to the organization as “Rams Junior High”, Fisher believes it may have come from the reporter or editor.

“That came from either the editor or the writer, but I didn’t think the ‘junior high’ thing came from an unnamed source,” Fisher said. “But again, I don’t pay as close attention to those things as you do because I’m more concerned about the Falcons. But I’ll just say this again, Les and I are fine. We work together. We talk every day. I don’t know where that’s coming from.”
