NFL Notes: Buccaneers, Chiefs, Lions, Patriots, Raiders

Buccaneers

  • Buccaneers DE Robert Ayers missed Wednesday’s practice since he is still going through the league’s concussion protocol. (Greg Auman)

Chiefs

  • Chiefs HC Andy Reid said that he expects newly signed CB Darrelle Revis to start for them, but he admitted that it will depend on how he does: “I’d think his role would be to step in and be a starter. That’s how I’d look at it.” (Terez A. Paylor)

Lions

On Wednesday, the Lions claimed veteran DE Dwight Freeney off of waivers from the Seahawks. (NFLTR)

Freeney admitted that he’s “completely confused” by Seattle’s decision to cut him loose, but he’s also looking forward to playing for Lions HC Jim Caldwell.

Patriots

  • A league source indicated to Jim McBride that Patriots QB Tom Brady’s Achilles’ injury is not considered serious and he should be back at practice on Thursday — Friday at the latest.

Raiders

  • According to Vic Tafur, Raiders OLB Bruce Irvin had a “long talk” with HC Jack Del Rio regarding the dismissal of former DC Ken Norton Jr. and left practice.
  • Del Rio indicated that Irvin needed “some space” to get over Norton’s firing.
