NFL Notes: Buccaneers, Dolphins, Ravens, Saints, & Vikings

Buccaneers

  • Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that DT Gerald McCoy dislocated his knee cap during Sunday’s loss to the Lions, but he was still able to finish the game.
  • McCoy will undergo an MRI on Monday to reveal the severity of the injury.

Dolphins

  • HC Joe Philbin and DE Jared Odrick both downplayed the sideline exchange between after the game, but Armando Salguero think we’re seeing “the first outward sign of dissatisfaction among players toward their coach.”

Ravens

Saints

Jason Fitzgerald of OverTheCap.com points out that the Saints have a “huge” amount of money committed to their 2015 salary cap.

According to OTC’s future cap figures, New Orleans’ active cap spending is just $159 million to go along with $907,298 in dead space, which leaves them over the cap by $20 million.

Fitzgerald doesn’t think the Saints will be able to justify signing QB Drew Brees to an extension, even though he has a staggering $26.4M cap charge next year. Instead, Fitzgerald mentions that the Saints could really use some help from Brees by agreeing to a similar contract to the one signed by Patriots QB Tom Brady a few years ago.

One player to keep an eye could be OLB Junior Galette, who looks like a candidate to rework his contract.

The Saints are in for an active offseason as they look to get cap compliant and create some additional room for new additions and their 2015 rookie class.
