NFL Notes: Buccaneers, Panthers, Eagles, & Saints

Buccaneers

  • According to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN, “every indication” has been that the Buccaneers are content entering the 2015 season with Jameis Winston and Mike Glennon as their top-two quarterbacks.
  • Yasinskas believes the Buccaneers had the most productive offseason of any team in the NFC South.
  • Yasinskas still thinks that Tampa Bay needs to add another defensive end.

Eagles

  • Tim McManus of PhillyMag.com writes that Tim Tebow has a “real shot” to beat out Matt Barkley for the team’s No. 3 quarterback job this summer.
  • McManus points out that the Eagles didn’t dismiss the idea of Tebow’s signing being related to the potential point-after-touchdown rule changes. On top of that, the Eagles were one of the teams that submitted a proposal to change the two-point conversion spot to the one-yard line.
  • McManus mentions that ff the two-point conversion becomes a bigger part of the game, Tebow’s value would increase.

Panthers

  • According to David Newton, the Panthers focus will likely turn to signing QB Cam Newton to a long-term contract extension. Although, Carolina may wait until the Seahawks address QB Russell Wilson before getting anything done with Newton.
  • Newton doesn’t think it’s all that pressing for the Panthers to restructure DE Charles Johnson‘s contract, even though he’ll count $20.02 million against the team’s salary cap in 2015.
  • Newton fully expects the Panthers to lock up veteran LB Thomas Davis at some point.
  • Even though the Panthers have said publicly that Michael Oher is “very key” to their offensive line, Newton wouldn’t be surprised to see Jonathan Martin get a shot at left tackle.
  • Newton considers left tackle, strong safety, and cornerback to be the Panthers three weakest positions.
