NFL Notes: Bucs, Chargers, Cowboys, Jets, & Redskins

Buccaneers

Buccaneers RT Demar Dotson said he expects to be fully recovered from an MCL sprain in time for training camp.

“I think I’ve had a good offseason,” Dotson said, via Scott Reynolds of Pewter Report. “I’m getting older. I’m almost 31 years old, so I really have to take care of my body. I’m not bouncing back from injuries like I was when I was younger. But this was a good offseason for me to rest, get my body back and strengthen my knee. I’ve also been working on getting my hips more flexible. I’m ready to show this team that I can still be productive at a high level.

Buccaneers HC Dirk Koetter said the team’s initial plan is for Dotson to start at right tackle, while Gosder Cherilus will play as a backup and swing tackle.

The game plan is we’re going to come in with Demar Dotson as the starter at right tackle and Gosder Cherilus is going to come in as the backup and the swing tackle,” Koetter said. “That was our plan last year. Gosder wasn’t on the team yet but our plan was to have Dot at right tackle. Due to injury, it didn’t work out that way. Gosder came in and it was well worth what we spent to get him in last year. He’s excellent in the locker room and he played well when we needed him to play. That’s where we’ll start this spring.

Chargers

  • Michael Gehlken of the Union-Tribune writes that Ole Miss OT Laremy Tunsil is a “messy fit” for the Chargers, given that they’re paying LT King Dunlap decent money and have Joe Barksdale entrenched as their right tackle.
  • Taking Tunsil would either lead to their sizable investment (Dunlap) sitting on the bench or their No. 3 overall pick.
  • Gehlken believes a defensive player is a much better fit for the Chargers at the top of the draft.

Cowboys

  • According to Matt Mosley of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys will be looking at either FSU DB Jalen Ramsey or OSU DE Joey Bosa at No. 4 overall.
  • However, Mosley adds that there are some within the Cowboys who would lobby for Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott, but Mosley believes this is still an unlikely scenario.

Jets

  • Rich Cimini of ESPN writes that Jets DL Muhammad Wilkerson is “their entree into the top 10, the bargaining chip that could allow them to improve their current position, 20th.
  • Even so, Cimini thinks the only way the Jets should part with Wilkerson is if they’re getting either Jared Goff or Carson Wentz.
  • According to Cimini, Paxton Lynch remains a wildcard for the Jets, and a team staffer was reportedly “buzzing” about his arm strength at his pro day. However, Cimini isn’t sure he’s worth parting with Wilkerson to get.
  • Cimini isn’t worried about the news that Wilkerson won’t attend the team’s voluntary workouts, as he’s still rehabbing his broken leg and hasn’t signed his franchise tender yet.

Redskins

  • Aaron Wilson reports that the Redskins have invited Penn State CB Trevor Williams to their local prospect workout on Tuesday.
  • Another prospect in attendance for the workout will be Purdue DT Ryan Watson, according to Wilson.
