NFL Notes: Cardinals, Chiefs, Dolphins, Giants

Cardinals

Chiefs

Chiefs HC Andy Reid said they plan to keep Bob Sutton in place as their defensive coordinator for the 2018 season.

“There’s nothing going on there,” Reid said, via the Kansas City Star. “I know everybody has their opinion on everything, just like they did when they wanted me to bench Alex [Smith]. That turned out pretty good. So [replacing Sutton] is not where I’m at or have ever been. I don’t listen to any of that. I do what I think is right for the Kansas City Chiefs.”

Dolphins

On Thursday, Dolphins free agent WR Jarvis Landry told Jane Slater of the NFL Network that contract talks with Miami are “moving slowly.

“They’re moving. They’re moving slowly, but they’re moving,” Landry said. “And again for me, [for] the most part I’ve been out trying to enjoy my time with my family, with these other guys — these talented guys around the league, and just letting the rest take care of itself.

Landry did, however, say that he would “love” to be back with the Dolphins for the 2018 season.

“I would love to,” Landry said. “I would love to, but understanding [that] it’s a business — one that I don’t truly understand — but again, I love the game of football and that’s the most important thing to me and if I can do that, that’s all that matters.

Yesterday, a report surfaced that Landry is not optimistic about returning to the Dolphins. (NFLTR)

Giants

Giants GM Dave Gettleman said recently hired HC Pat Shurmur‘s maturity was a big factor in their decision to sign him.

“I really believe the head coach job for the New York Football Giants is a job for an adult and Pat is every bit of that,” Gettleman said, via Calvin Watkins of Newsday. “I’m just real excited. We’ve had some great conversations and he’s got a great sense of humor and I’m just excited about where we’re going.”

“He’s an adult,” Gettleman added. “He’s mature. He’s got wisdom. He’s very even-keeled and his demeanor really pays off. I’ve watched him on the sidelines. He doesn’t get shook. He doesn’t get rattled. This is a job for a grownup. We’re halfway through the interview and I wrote down in my notes, ‘This is an adult.’ Everybody wants the next wiz-bang kid. Let me tell you something. You look at history and see how that’s worked out. This is a veteran, seasoned professional football coach.”
