NFL Notes: Cardinals, Colts, Dolphins

Cardinals

Colts

Colts GM Chris Ballard explained that he’s looking forward to a physical training camp this summer.

“This will be a physical camp for us,” Ballard told Colts.com. “We’ve got a young football team and you need to spar. I think we will have a physical camp and I think you need to. It helps get your body ready. I think a lot of the problems we have is that we don’t hit enough. You’re always worried about injuries, but this is football and it’s a physical game.

“It’s much like boxing. You need to spar. Your body’s got to get prepared for the grind and the hits of the season it’s going to endure. If your body doesn’t get used to that in camp, then I think that’s when things fall off during the season.’’

Dolphins

Archie Manning said Friday that Dolphins HC Adam Gase reached out to Peyton Manning shortly after QB Ryan Tannehill went down with a knee injury.

“He said, ‘Hey 18, [Ryan] Tannehill went down,’” Archie said, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. “[Gase] said, ‘I think he’s going to miss some time. The first question I’m going to get at the press conference in the morning is if I’m going to try to bring you to Miami. What do you want me to tell them?‘”

While Manning believed he could probably play, he wasn’t interested in coming out of retirement.

“The text message came back from Peyton, ‘You tell them I could probably come play, but there’s no way I can miss carpool the next two weeks.’ So, he was done,” Archie said.
