NFL Notes: CBA, Jets, Lions, Ravens

CBA

  • Jason Cole of B/R reports that the players haven’t given NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith permission to work on a new CBA agreement with owners right now.
  • According to Cole, Smith just has permission to “hear what (the owners) have to say” at this point.

Jets

  • Jets HC Todd Bowles said when asked if Josh McCown is the frontrunner to be the team’s starting quarterback this season: “Not at this time. I don’t look at anybody as the frontrunner.” (Kimberly Jones)
  • Bowles added that “it is a competition.” and said Josh McCown, Christian Hackenberg, and Bryce Petty reps were “pretty close” to being divided evenly this spring. (Kimberly Jones)

Lions

Newly acquired OT Greg Robinson was already in attendance for Thursday’s practice after he was traded to the Lions in return for a 2018 sixth-round pick.

Robinson said he intends to benefit “tremendously” from this new opportunity with the Lions.

“I plan on benefitting from it tremendously,” Robinson said, via DetroitLions.com. “It’s really refreshing and I plan to make the most out of it.

“Really, my goal is to come in and try my best to learn (the offense) as much as possible and from there just step in and take to coaching and perform to the best of my ability.

Ravens

Former Ravens TE Dennis Pitta said Thursday he isn’t delusional about his NFL future after suffering a third hip injury.

I’ve dislocated my hip three times,” Pitta said, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN. “Take it for what it is. I’m not delusional. I know and understand what that means. At the same time, I’m just taking one day at a time and trying to get back healthy. That’s all that really matters.

I haven’t put a lot of thought into what my future holds or what’s going to happen,” Pitta said. “I’m just trying to focus on my rehab.

Pitta said there were no indications that his hip could give out again.

“There wasn’t any indication that my hip would give out again. It felt great,” Pitta said. “I remember telling my wife a couple of days before it happened that I felt better than I ever have.”

While it’s disappointing that he suffered yet another hip injury, Pitta says he doesn’t regret coming back last year.

“I don’t regret coming back and playing last season,” Pitta said. “I felt great all year. I think I would’ve regretted it more, sitting at home, feeling as good as I did and not playing. It was a tremendous year for me personally to overcome what I did and prove a lot to myself.
