NFL Notes: Chargers, Packers, Patriots & Redskins

Chargers

  • Michael Gehlken reports that the Chargers have informed the 15 players that tried out for the team this past weekend that none of them will be signed right now.
  • However, Gehlken mentions that there’s a chance they could bring someone in at a later point.

Packers

Packers undrafted free agent RB John Crockett said he choose to sign with the Packers, despite having offers from at least 20 teams.

Crockett mentioned that he spent time looking at team’s depth charts before making his decision.

Of course, I’m not just going to go sign a contract blind,” Harris said, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN. “Me and my agent and my high-school coach, we all did research. Teams my agent told me about, we wrote them down and did research on them. Other teams had several [running backs] in the mix. Dallas had about three or four as well as Green Bay. So that’s what it really came down to. I really felt this was the best position.”

“Green Bay is one of the places that actually gives you a shot,” Crockett said. “And that’s all you can ask for.”

Patriots

Patriots owner Robert Kraft mentioned during an interview with Peter King of TheMMQB.com that no one really knows what they have in QB Jimmy Garoppolountil the bullets are flying.”

“My gut feeling is the same as yours,” Kraft said. “He is a very hard worker, a very fine young man, but until the bullets are flying and you’re out there, no one knows. Think about how many of these first-round picks, even, don’t make it. He works hard and he studies hard, though.

Redskins

John Keim of ESPN reports that the Redskins signed four players that tried out for the team this past weekend during their rookie minicamp.

According to Keim, Washington signed Georgia QB Hutson Mason, Alabama State OT Tovar Allen, Louisiana Tech LB Houston Bates, and Southern Miss LB Dasman McCullum.
