NFL Notes: Chiefs, Giants, Raiders, Redskins, & Saints

Chiefs

ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that Chiefs RT Eric Fisher never asked out of the starting lineup to avoid Texans DE J.J. Watt.

Instead, sources tells Werder that it was HC Andy Reid‘s decision, due to Fisher’s limitations from an ankle sprain.

“I know things are out there. That’s ridiculous,” Reid said. “I was the one that watched him practice. I thought if I put him out there, I’d put him in a terrible situation.”

Giants

Giants first-round LT Ereck Flowers underwent an MRI on his injured ankle a day after he finished their Week 1 match up, despite the injury.

“They’re doing the usual number of MRIs, etc., etc.,” Giants coach Tom Coughlin said on a conference call Monday, via Dan Graziano of ESPN. “He did injure the ankle early on, and he gutted it out and finished the game. But today is a different day. He was limited to a certain extent because of the injury, but I thought he battled away, and that’s what we always counted on — that he would battle. And he did.

Raiders

  • Raiders HC Jack Del Rio is hopeful regarding Derek Carr hand injury, as the quarterback was able to grip the ball and soft toss on Monday. (Ed Werder)

Redskins

Saints

  • Aaron Wilson reports that the Saints are bringing in OT Jake Rodgers for a tryout on Tuesday.
