NFL Notes: Chiefs, Giants & Ravens

Chiefs

Former No. 1 overall pick Eric Fisher said he sees himself “on a steady incline” since he got off to a slow start to his pro career.

“I see myself on a steady incline,” Fisher said, via Chiefs.com. “I’m looking to pick up where I left off (last year), continue to grow and stay on a steady rise throughout my career. If I can do that 10 more years, however many more years, I’m looking forward to it and really looking forward to a great season this year.

Fisher mentioned that last year’s playoff performance seemed like a turning point in his career.

“It almost seemed like a little bit of a turning point in my career,” Fisher said. “It was nice to get going – especially in the playoffs, round one. And then (winning) the first playoff game in quite some time around here, I thought that was a big accomplishment.”

Giants

  • James Kratch of NJ.com mentions that the Giant will most likely keep six linebackers on their 53-man roster with the possibility being open to carrying as many as seven linebackers.
  • Kratch can’t see the Giants cutting veteran Mark Herzlich this summer, considering the leadership he brings and his ability to contribute on special teams.
  • Kratch projections New York to keep Devon Kennard, B.J. Goodson, Jasper Brinkley, Jonathan Casillas, Keenan Robinson and Herzlich at linebacker, which leaves J.T. Thomas, Kelvin Sheppard and Brad Bars as potential cuts.
  • In regards to the running back position, Kratch expects Rashad Jennings to open as the team’s starter with Shane Vereen handling third-down situations.
  • As for rookie Paul Perkins, Kratch still expects him to have an impact this year, but admits it may not happen until later on in the season.

Ravens

  • Clifton Brown of CSN Mid Atlantic writes that John Urschel has the “inside track” to start in place of Kelechi Osemele, who departed in free agency for a big-money deal with the Raiders.
  • Brown does, however, admit that Ryan Jensen, fourth-round pick Alex Lewis, or Vladimir Ducasse could all push Urschel for the job this summer.
  • The expectation is still that first-round pick Ronnie Stanley will be the team’s starting left tackle, which means they will have a completely new starting left side of their offensive line.
