NFL Notes: Chiefs, Jaguars, Steelers

Chiefs

Chiefs HC Andy Reid would not rule out RB Spencer Ware (PCL) returning at some point this season, but they must continue to evaluate him.

It’s not one of those things that’s just clear cut, end of the season,” said Reid, via Adam Teicher of ESPN. “That’s not what it is right now. We’ve got to go through the whole process here in this case.”

Reid added that RB Kareem Hunt will start in Ware’s place, while Charcandrick West and C.J. Spiller could also receive playing time.

He’d be the next man up, “Reid said, via Teicher. “We’ve always rotated guys and it would be no different I think in this case.”

Jaguars

Jaguars HC Doug Marrone believes QB Blake Bortles gives the team the “best chance to win” due to his ability to “extend plays.”

The first thing I look at is who gives us the best chance to win in the situation we’re in,” Marrone said, via Ryan O’Halloran of The Florida Times-Union. “I look at everything, not just the quarterback position of how we want to play and what we want to do. Blake has the ability to extend plays for us, which is going to be helpful in what we have to get done.”

  • As for the starting left guard role, Marrone said the team is still “trying to figure it out.” (John Oehser)
  • Oehser notes that Patrick Omameh and Luke Bowanko have split time at left guard throughout the preseason.

Steelers

  • Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell said that he will report to the Steelers on September 1: “September 1st, I’ll be back. They’re side-to-side with me, I’m side-to-side with them.” (Michael Arace)
