NFL Notes: Chiefs, Raiders, Redskins

Chiefs

  • Albert Breer confirms that theĀ Chiefs plan to interview internal and external candidates for their GM vacancy and owner Clark Hunt will lead the search.
  • However, Breer mentions that Brett Veach is considered a “prime candidate” for the job.
  • Breer points out that while Andy Reid was in Philadelphia, tumult in the team’s scouting department led to them promoting a young Howie Roseman to GM and he thinks the same could happen with Veach.

Raiders

On Friday, Raiders QB Derek Carr told reporters that he “never chased the money” during negotiations with Oakland regarding his five-year, $125 million extension.

ā€œI never chased the money,ā€ Carr said, via Jerry McDonald of the Mercury Times. ā€œItā€™s about being the best version of myself every day. If I can get even one kid to understand that, Iā€™ve done my job.ā€

Carr stressed that he wanted to make sure the team had the ability to address some of their other core players in the near future.

ā€œIā€™d say, `Thatā€™s awesome, but is it good for Gabe? Is it good for Khalil?,ā€ Carr said. ā€œHurting the team is the last thing I wanted to do.ā€

  • According to Carr, his agent actually wanted to push for more money, but he told him: ā€œI think thatā€™s plenty.ā€ (Vic Tafur)
  • Raiders GM ReggieĀ McKenzie said they plan to address some of their other players soon: “This affords us to do that. We’ll start on that ASAP.” (Michael Gehlken)
  • McKenzie added that there’s currently no timetable for Gabe Jackson extension.Ā (Vic Tafur)

Redskins

Redskins HC Jay Gruden mentioned that they plan to find more ways to getĀ Jamison Crowder involved in their offense this season.

ā€œIā€™ve said all along Jamison can play anywhere,ā€ coach Jay Gruden recently said, via the Washington Post. ā€œHe can play outside, inside. He can play running back probably if he wanted to. So weā€™ll utilize Jamison and try to get him more involved, not just in the passing game and the running game.ā€

ā€œHe just continues to prove every day why we like him so much,ā€ Gruden said. ā€œHeā€™s great on option routes, he can run vertical stems. He can run just about anything you ask him to run. . . . He gets himself open because heā€™s got a great feel. Heā€™s got quickness in and out of his breaks. He plays a lot longer than his size. He has got really long arms. He goes up and gets balls. Sometime he plays bigger than a taller receiver because he uses his height [and] heā€™s got great jumping ability and times the jumps extremely well. Some tall guys you see, they misjudge it and they donā€™t jump. But Jamison, he times them perfect and makes big plays.ā€
