NFL Notes: Chris Spencer, Broncos, Ravens, & Redskins

Chris Spencer

Free agent OL Chris Spencer tells the Nashville Tennessean that he suffered a torn Achilles’ while working out last month.

“I spent the whole offseason training, getting ready,” said Spencer. “I’d been working out hard 4-5 days a week. The older you get, you can’t sit around and do nothing. My body was feeling great and hitting numbers I hadn’t hit in awhile. I was feeling great, and this happened.

“I put my foot in the ground and it just popped on me. As soon as it popped, I knew exactly what happened. It’s just bad luck.”

Broncos

  • Broncos have signed fourth-round OL Max Garcia and sixth-round DT Darius Kilgo to four-year contracts. (Mike Klis)

Ravens

Ravens undrafted rookie DE Cory Morrissey (Iowa State) has walked away from his three-year contract, citing being burned out on football.

“I have made the decision to step away from the game of football,” Morrissey announced on his Facebook page, via the Baltimore Sun. “I’ve truly realized that I’ve lost the passion to play the game. I have been hiding behind a mask comprised of what people think of me and what others want me to do but not what I truly want for myself.

“Being burnt out and not finding any excitement for the opportunity I’ve had has made a huge inner battle with myself where my anxiety has sky rocketed. This life should never be fueled by money, and I am very thankful for the opportunity. The support I’ve had from everyone through this process has been amazing. Thank you.

Redskins

  • John Keim of ESPN writes that there’s a “50-percent chance” of the Redskins signed RB Alfred Morris to a contract extension.
  • Keim believes Washington should focus on locking up LT Trent Williams and OLB Ryan Kerrigan to long-term deals before turning their attention to Morris.
  • According to Keim, the addition of third-round pick RB Matt Jones eliminates any possibility of the Redskins signing free agent RB Pierre Thomas.
