NFL Notes: Colts, Eagles, Patriots

Colts

Update:

Tony Dungy tells Pro Football Talk that the characterization of his comments to Dan Patrick is not accurate and he even spoke to Colts owner Jim Irsay about Andrew Luck.

“I never had a conversation with Jim Irsay,” Dungy said. “I never said I had a conversation with Jim Irsay.

Kravtiz has since corrected this story:

Former Colts HC Tony Dungy mentioned during an appearance on the “Dan Patrick show” while he did not know they were on air that owner Jim Irsay told him he believes QB Andrew Luck‘s problem is more mental than physical.

“I don’t know what’s going on there. Jim Irsay made a comment about six weeks ago, ‘It’s inside his head now,'” Dungy said, via Bob Kravitz of WTHR.com.

Patrick: “Wait, it’s inside Luck’s head?

Dungy: “Yeah, [Irsay] said that when I was out [in Indianapolis] for Peyton’s ceremony.”

Patrick: “Wow. I really wonder if Luck’s future is in Indianapolis. I really do.

Dungy didn’t say anything about Luck’s future in Indianapolis, but said that they really thought Luck was going to be ready for the start of the season: “They obviously believed it because they did nothing to prepare for him not being there.”

Eagles

  • Field Yates reports that the Eagles elevated the salary of practice squad CB D.J. Killings to an active roster rate of $27,353 per week). Yates adds that it’s possible another team attempted to sign Killings off of their practice squad.

Patriots

Patriots HC Bill Belichick confirmed reports from earlier this offseason that Jimmy Garoppolo wasn’t available for trade.

“There was no market to trade Jimmy in April, on our end,” Belichick said during an interview on WEEI’s “Dale and Holley with Keefe” show, via NESN.com. “I don’t really care what the offer was. I don’t even know what the offers were, or would have been. There was no interest on our end in making that deal. It didn’t really matter what the offer was, or would the offer would have been. I don’t really know what they were because we never entertained it. “As I said, we had the best depth at that position probably of any team in the league, or at least we felt like we did. Maybe other teams felt different, I don’t know. We had great depth at that position. It was a tremendous situation to have two quarterbacks of the caliber we’ve had the past call it two and a half years from when Jimmy was ready. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t sustainable.”
