AFC Notes: Broncos, Colts, Jets & Titans

Broncos

  • Peter King mentions that there’s a “legit chance” of Trevor Siemian winning the Broncos starting job.
  • King senses that Broncos’ players have as much faith in Siemian as anyone in camp and the coachings staff is “smitten with him.

Colts

Colts HC Chuck Pagano mentioned that DE Henry Anderson could come off the active/PUP list at some point in the near future.

He’s doing really good, so I think we are close,” Pagano said of Anderson. “We just have to make a decision what we want to do. Basically the doctors have said, ‘When you guys feel good about it, we can get him off PUP.’

Jets

Jets QB Bryce Petty admitted being a little taken aback when the Jets selected Christian Hackenberg in the second round of this year’s draft.

It was tough,” Petty said, via ESPN. “But at the same time, if anything it’s motivation for me. And that goes for anybody. There’s a new crop every year to take your spot, that’s just how it is. You can’t be sensitive about it. It was one of those deals where you’re like, alright, here we go, it happened sooner than I thought but here we go.

“But he’s been great. He’s pushed me, I’ve pushed Geno, Geno’s pushed Fitz, and vice versa, all the way around.”

Petty seemed to admit that it’s possible he could be playing elsewhere, depending on how things go in the coming weeks.

“Unfortunately at the first part of camp, I was trying to make things happen, I was trying to be perfect, and you know as an athlete you can’t do that,” Petty said. “There came a point about Practice 7 or 8 when I just said, ‘Man, the heck with this, whatever happens is gonna happen. At the end of the day, if I can come in here and say I gave it all I got, and it still doesn’t work out, then it means there’s a better opportunity for me somewhere else.”

Titans

Former Titans WR Justin Hunter admitted that team’s decision to trade WR Dorial Green-Beckham just year after using a second-round pick on him feels like a clear message to everyone on the team.

“I feel like it sent a message out to everybody — you better get your stuff right,” Hunter said, via the Tennessean. “I don’t think anyone in the locker room was expecting it.

“It is still going to be hard (to make the team) because we have a lot of talented receivers in the group. We are fighting for spots, and you have to keep up and progress at the same time.”

Hunter added that there’s a feeling that anyone could be on the chopping block.

“I feel like everybody is on the chopping block,’’ Hunter said. “We have a new GM, and he didn’t draft too many people in here. Anybody could go at this point, and we are all fighting for a spot.
