NFL Notes: Colts, Packers, Seahawks, Steelers

Colts

According to Colts defensive coordinator Ted Monachino, Andrew Luck picked apart the team’s defense while operating as the scout team quarterback on Thursday.

“He made us look silly a couple times — a couple pump fakes and drew some guys out of coverage,” Monachino said, via ESPN.com. “But yeah, it’s good to see him out there. I talked to him before the period and I said, ‘Throw it wherever you need to. Take care of yourself and be conscious of where you are in your recovery process.’ It didn’t look like he was babying himself — I know that. He went out there and made some throws down the field and drove a ball in on a short out-cut. It was encouraging to see him out there.”

“When I saw him, I was like, ‘Oh man, scout team. Andrew Luck is your quarterback.’ It was different,” cornerback Vontae Davis said. “You have to cover. That’s the best look you’re going to get. It’s a game-situation look. He’s working his way back, but still he’s Andrew Luck.”

Packers

The Packers will have a three-week window open up following Week 6’s game against the Vikings in which they can activate rookie OLB Vince Biegel from the PUP list.

Then the fun begins,” Biegel said, via Jason Wilde of Madison.com. “Then we start getting after it — start practicing, start working with the team, which is awesome. I’ve definitely been hard at work the last six weeks, getting the confidence back, being able to work hard with the training staff. They’ve been outstanding. My mindset is in a good spot and I’m really excited to make that step.”

Biegel broke a bone in his foot, which led to him opening the year on the PUP list, but he says that the bone was already 100 percent healed before the end of training camp. However, the Packers’ medical staff wanted him to “get the confidence, the pop back to where you need it to be.

“The bone was 100 percent. But confidence-wise, it’s gotten so much better the last six weeks. For them to be able to take their time with me has been awesome,” Biegel said. “To be honest with you, I’m ready to stop talking about it and ready to start playing.

Seahawks

Brady Henderson of ESPN writes that the Seahawks are hopeful that CB DeShawn Shead and DE Dion Jordan are nearing their returns from injuries that have sidelined them all season.

However, Henderson says it will likely be another three weeks at the very least until either is ready to play in a game based on the comments made by HC Pete Carroll and how they’ve handled players on the PUP and NFI lists in the past.

Steelers

While Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has struggled this year, executives around the league tell Tom Pelissero of NFL Media that “guys are fishing” to even discuss a decline based on five games.

Maybe a little bit of foot speed [is gone] — in the past, he was a really good scrambler. But not anything skill-wise,” said one executive. “He’s still accurate. He can still throw it a f—ing mile.”
