NFL Notes: Cowboys, Jets, Patriots & Seahawks

Cowboys

  • A source tells Ed Werder that with Tony Romo close to returning: “I’m not worried about Dak at all. Now the rest of the team, that is a concern.
  • Werder adds that some Cowboys are concerned about the effect Romo’s availability and a potential quarterback change could have on the team’s chemistry.

Jets

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that even before the Jets signed DL Muhammad Wilkerson to a five-year, $86 million extension, HC Todd Bowles met with him to discuss his past behavior.

Wilkerson reportedly told Bowles that he promised to make a better effort moving forward. However, he and DL Sheldon Richardson have missed team meetings on multiple occasions this season.

According to Rapoport, Bowles has been trying to change a culture that previously included players going to bars and strip clubs before games and after bed checks.

Patriots

  • Mike Reiss points out that the Patriots and TE Martellus Bennett explored a scenario that would have added a year to his contract but they weren’t able to reach an agreement.
  • If RB Dion Lewis is active tonight, Reiss expects him to play a few series and gradually build his workload in the coming weeks.

Seahawks

Jason La Canfora reports that the Seahawks are hopeful QB Russell Wilson can add more aspects of the read-option in the coming weeks now that he’s improving after dealing with ankle and knee injuries this year.

What you saw Monday night is real,” one source close to Wilson told La Canfora. “He is healing and strengthening the knee and the ankle and the pec [pectoral]. It’s trending in the right direction.”
