NFL Notes: Cowboys, Jets, Seahawks, & Texans

Cowboys

Cowboys OC Scott Linehan said that although QB Tony Romo (back) was able to perform a limited practice on Thursday for the first time this season, there is still no timetable for his return to the starting lineup.

There’s no timeline or any of that stuff, but we’re just really happy to see him get back out there,” said Linehan via Drew Davison.

  • Todd Archer of ESPN notes that Romo did not take any reps during the 11-on-11 portion of practice but was in a helmet and jersey during when practice was open to media.
  • Cowboys DC Rod Marinelli said CB Orlando Scandrick (hamstring) will be on a “pitch count” for Sunday’s Week 8 game. (Charean Williams)

Jets

  • Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News writes that it makes no sense for the Jets to consider trading veteran WR Brandon Marshall ahead of next week’s deadline, given that he’s been an invaluable player for the Jets and HC Todd Bowles.
  • Beyond that, two general managers told Mehta that while Marshall is still a productive player, it’s likely he would command just a fifth-round pick.
  • In regards to suggestions that the Jets should also consider trading DL Sheldon Richardson, Mehta mentions he’s move valuable than Muhammad Wilkerson, held in higher regarding around the league, and no team would part with a first-round pick for him right now.

Seahawks

Texans

  • Aaron Wilson reports that Texans OT Derek Newton underwent successful surgery on Thursday to repair both patellar tendons in his knee.
  • Wilson adds that Newton luckily did not tear either of his ACLs.
