NFL Notes: Cowboys, Raiders, Saints

Cowboys

Raiders

Raiders HC Jon Gruden referred to Derek Carr as a franchise quarterback who has been “carrying us right now on offense.”

“I think he’s hanging in there,” Gruden said, via NBC Bay Area. “No question, I am sure he is sore. He knows he is carrying us right now on offense. That’s what a franchise quarterback is paid to do, but we are doing everything we can to support him, to try and put him in position to audible at the line of scrimmage, fix problems, and move the football and ultimately win games. He really has had us in position to win a lot of these games. It’s a credit to him.

Saints

Eli Apple has turned out to be a great midseason pick up for the Saints, who were in need of cornerback help leading up to this year’s trade deadline.

Apple explains that his teammates in New Orleans have pushed him and are “bringing out the best” in him.

“My teammates, they’re bringing out the best in me. They push me every day, especially Coach AG [secondary coach Aaron Glenn] and the whole defensive staff,” Apple said, via ESPN.com. “Every week, it’s just understanding the defense, understanding how my teammates play and just playing with more confidence.
