David Harris‘ agents, Brian Mackler and Jim Ivler, tell Adam Schefter that they’re “very disappointed” by the Jets’ decision to release their client at this point in the offseason after all he’s contributed to the franchise.
“Very disappointing in the timing of this event and the decision. The Jets could have done this prior to free agency instead of waiting three months, especially for a player who has exhibited nothing but loyalty and class for 10 years.”
We have him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
“He knows I love him,” Reid said of Maclin, via the Kansas City Star. “I haven’t changed on that. He’s a phenomenal person and I wished him the best of luck. There’s not much else you can say.”
Reid explained that releasing Maclin at this point at least gives him some time to find a new opportunity with a different team.
“This gives him another time to hook on with another team, which he will do — Jeremy can still play,” Reid said. “This is part of the NFL business … this is the worst part about the job, clearly.”
Falcons HC Dan Quinn told reporters that he hasn’t hasn’t spoken to free agent DE Dwight Freeney about returning for the 2017 season.
“I haven’t even found out if he’s ready to play yet,” Quinn said, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I know he was pretty committed to golf. He’s such a competitor. But our conversations haven’t been about playing. When we drafted [first-round defensive end Takkarist McKinley], that was someone I wanted him to connect with. But we haven’t talked about playing. If he does [bring it up], he knows we’re going down the line of looking at our team here first.”
Freeney recently mentioned that he is optimistic (NFLTR) about re-signing with the Falcons.
