NFL Notes: Derek Carr, Bills, Jaguars, Jets, Packers & Steelers

Derek Carr

  • Ian Rapoport reports that QB Derek Carr (fibula surgery) is considered an “extreme long-shot” to play in the Super Bowl, assuming the Raiders are able to make it that far. However, Rapoport says that Carr will attempt to return.
  • According to Rapoport, Carr’s surgery went well and he’s expected to make a full recovery but a return in six weeks “doesn’t seem realistic.”

Bills

  • Bills interim HC Anthony Lynn confirmed that EJ Manuel will start at quarterback for them in Week 17. (Mike Rodak)
  • Lynn explained that the decision to start Manuel was a “business decision.” (Mike Rodak)
  • Lynn did say that he wants to be back with the Bills but also indicated that he plans to keep his options open with other teams. (Mike Rodak)
  • In regards to Rex Ryan, Lynn said that, as a friend, he wanted Ryan to get more time as a coach but it’s not up to him to decide if that’s fair. (Mike Rodak)

Jaguars

  • The Jaguars tried out TE Kivon Cartwright on Tuesday. (Howard Balzer)

Jets

  • The Jets worked out kickers Ross Martin and Giorgio Tavecchio on Tuesday.

Packers

Steelers

  • The Steelers brought in OT Ryan Mack, G Vi Teofilo, and TE Inaki Villanueva for a workout on Tuesday.
