NFL Notes: Derek Carr, Colts, Raiders, & Saints

Derek Carr

After a report from Tuesday night said that Raiders QB Derek Carr’s finger injury may require surgery, the second-year quarterback’s agent, Tim Younger, mentioned that it’s a “nonstory.”

“It’s a very minor situation,” Tim Younger said, via the San Francisco Chronicle. “I think he’s probably going to be throwing before the end of” offseason team activities.

“I don’t know where this idea came up that he’s going to be having surgery,” Younger said. “The situation, I don’t even want to call it an injury, is very minor, and we’re just being cautious.

Younger added that he expects Carr to be 100 percent healthy for the Raiders’ mandatory minicamp, which begins June 9.

If he was really going to have hand surgery, I’d tell you,” Younger said. “I’d tell everybody.

Colts

  • First-round pick WR Phillip Dorsett has already flashed in the Colts’ practices, according to Stephen Holder.
  • Holder mentions that Jack Mewhort has been working at right tackle during OTAs.
  • According to Holder, Dwight Lowerycertainly looks like the clubhouse leader” for the free safety job while Mike Adams looks to be entrenched at strong safety.

Raiders

NFL executive Eric Grubman seemed skeptical about Oakland’s ability to keep the Raiders long-term.

I have been to Oakland many times over the last four or five years,” Grubman said, via Jerry McDonald of the Bay Area News Group. “Each time I’ve gone there I’ve heard that the promise is right around the corner of a master development of that parcel that will include substantial proceeds from a developer, a third party, fourth party or multiple-party developers. I’ve heard that for three or four years and it hasn’t been produced and we have now lost all that time, the time has shrunk. No results have been produced. That, to me is going backward, because the time has shrunk but the probability hasn’t gone up.”

  • Raiders signed fifth-round pick LB Ben Heeney to a four-year contract.
