NFL Notes: Developmental League, Jeff Fisher, Bengals & Raiders

Developmental League

Saints HC Sean Payton told reporters on Thursday that he isn’t in favor of a new developmental league, which is expected to discussed at the owners meeting in the coming months.

Instead, Payton says that he thinks we could see an increase to the practice squad limits.

“I’m not in favor of the developmental league,” Payton said, via Nick Underhill of the Advocate. “I think you’re going to see an increased number of practice squad players. The developmental league, I think, is a way for more network programming.

Jeff Fisher

Rams HC Jeff Fisher was asked about his previous comment that he’s “not f—ing going 7-9 or 8-8 or 9-7” this year and whether he’s concerned about his future with the team.

We opened our world to ‘Hard Knocks,’” Fisher said, via ESPN.com. “Those comments came after a couple of issues that we had. I’ve never been satisfied with 7-9 or 8-8. I’ve had a number of winning seasons. I’m not concerned. I don’t look over my shoulder, like I’ve said over and over again. I’m not concerned about my job. I have a great relationship with [Rams owner Stan Kroenke]. He understands the difficulties that were placed on this organization as far as the move is concerned. And I’m moving forward optimistically with this team.

Bengals

  • Bob Holtzman of ESPN reports that Bengals WR A.J. Green will miss his third straight game on Sunday.
  • However, Holtzman’s sources did say that Green’s hamstring is healing as expected.

Raiders

  • Albert Breer expects the NFL to maintain “strong interest” in the efforts being made by the city of Oakland to keep the Raiders in the Bay Area.
  • Breer mentions that the NFL “very much” wants to keep a foothold in the North Bay now that the 49ers have moved to Santa Clara, as they believe there’s an opportunity for the Raiders to grow their fan base.
