NFL Notes: Dez Bryant, Chargers, Giants, Panthers, & Patriots

Dez Bryant

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that as long as WR Dez Bryant is comfortable with his foot, they’re comfortable with him playing in Week 7’s game.

“We’ll take a good look at him tomorrow and at the end of the week,” Jones said, via CBS Sports. “If he’s comfortable to putting it down and driving off of his foot then we’re comfortable with him playing.”

Despite Jones’ optimism regarding Bryant, a number of NFL media members considers it unlikely that Bryant will play this weekend.

Chargers

  • Michael Gehlken reports that the Chargers have promoted S Adrian Phillips to their active roster.
  • Chargers S Eric Weddle (groin) and Jahleel Addae (back) are both dealing with injuries, so it makes sense that San Diego would want to bolster their depth at the position.

Giants

According to Art Stapleton, there’s “guarded optimism” about Giants WR Victor Cruz and his progress from a calf injury.

Stapleton mentions that Cruz is experience no pain in his left calf and is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Wednesday. Barring any unforeseen issues, Stapleton adds that Cruz could  gain clearance to begin running again and possibly practice at some point this week.

However, Stapleton considers it unlikely that Cruz will suit up for their Week 7 match up against the Cowboys. Although, their following game against Saints could be a “realistic target,” according to Stapleton.

Panthers

  • Aaron Wilson reports that the Panthers are working out WR Douglas McNeil.

Patriots

  • Patriots HC Bill Belichick told reports that they “probably will” have WR Brandon LaFell practicing this week. Although, no final decision has been made regarding LaFell, who has been on the PUP list. (Karen Guregian)
