NFL Notes: Dolphins, Jets, Lions & Steelers

Dolphins

Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald writes that the Dolphins could save millions in both real money and against their salary cap if they made veteran DE Cameron Wake available for trade ahead of this year’s traded deadline.

Wake said he’s strictly focused on helping the Dolphins win games and not his future with the team.

“It’s not a ‘which one’s more important,’” Wake said. “I just want to win. Obviously, I’m here in Miami and I’ll be here as long as they have me, and I’ll do everything I can to make sure Miami’s a winner. I’m not concerned with going anywhere else, doing anything else.”

“Like I said, as long as they’ll have me, I’ll be here. And as long as I’m able, I’ll do whatever I can to make this a winning team.

Jets

Jets WR Eric Decker (torn rotator cuff) mentioned that he expects to undergo surgery in the next week or two and is then facing a six- to eight-month rehab.

It’s not a fun time, but obviously it’s something that needs to be done to continue my career,” Decker said, per Rich Cimini.

In regards to the pain, Decker said it’s like “someone is stabbing you.”

Lions

  • Joel Corry of CBS Sports points out that Lions QB Matthew Stafford and his agent Tom Condon will likely leverage a strong 2016 season into a monster contract next year.
  • It would run the Lions $26.4 million to franchise Stafford in 2018 and because of his financial stability, Corry expects him to have more leverage than Raiders QB Derek Carr.

Steelers

  • Steelers practice squad WR Cobi Hamilton mentioned that he received a few first-team practice reps this week.
  • Jeremy Fowler considers Hamilton a candidate to be promoted to the active roster ahead of Sunday’s game against the Dolphins.
