NFL Notes: Doug Marrone, Broncos, Jets, Rams, Ravens

Doug Marrone

Jason La Canfora reports that the Jaguars have reached out to former Bills HC Doug Marrone regarding their offensive coordinator job.

  • However, La Canfora continues to hear that Marrone is more likely to accept a position with the Texans.
  • According to La Canfora, Marrone has a “very strong” relationship with Texans HC Bill O’Brien and there is reportedly “mutual interest” between the two parties.

Broncos

  • Peyton Manning will not appear in this year’s Pro Bowl due to a quad injury.

Jets

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that tampering charges against Jets have been filed for comments team owner Woody Johnson made last month about Patriots CB Darrelle Revis.

  • According to Schefter, the NFL is looking into the matter and trying to determine whether there was a violation.
  • Johnson and the Jets could face a fine from the league for his comments.

Rams

  • Nick Wagoner believes the Rams could consider some free agent upgrades at interior offensive line positions such as Mike Iupati, Stefen Wisniewski, and Rodney Hudson.
  • According to Wagoner, the Rams’ plan for their quarterback position is likely to bring back Sam Bradford back at a reduced rate, re-sign either Shaun Hill or Austin Davis, and target a young quarterback in the draft.
  • Wagoner suggests LT Jake Long, C Scott Wells, QB Sam Bradford, and DT Kendall Langford as potential cap causalities.
  • Wagoner puts the odds of St. Louis trading up for either Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota at “10 percent.”

Ravens

Jamison Hensley predicts that the Ravens will sign a “bona fide No. 1 receiver” this offseason like Broncos free agent Demaryius Thomas.

Hensley is getting the feeling that Baltimore would like to capitalize on the momentum of this offensive upswing and could look to bring in a true No. 1 receiving option.

  • Hensley advocates for signing both starting guards Marshal Yanda and Kelechi Osemele to contract extensions, now that they will be entering the final years of their current deals.
  • Hensley wouldn’t be surprised if rookie fifth-round pick John Urschel is the Ravens’ starting center in 2016 given that they’re basically stuck with Jeremy Zuttah for one more year.
  • Cornerback remains the team’s top need this offseason, according to Hensley.
  • Hensley doesn’t see the Ravens using their franchise tag on anyone this year.
