NFL Notes: Draft, 49ers, Eagles, Packers & Patriots

Draft

  • Matt Miller of B/R reports that Notre Dame QB Deshaun Kizer still has decided whether to turn pro after this season.
  • Sources have told Miller that Kizer’s advisory believe he should remain in school for one more season but he’s skeptical of the Notre Dame’s coaching staff and their future.
  • Miller still expects Kizer to be a first-round pick. Although, he adds that NFL teams are still torn on where Kizer will ultimately come off the board.

49ers

49ers HC Chip Kelly told reporters on Monday he hasn’t discussions with the front office regarding his future with the team.

No,” Kelly said, via Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. “We haven’t had any conversations about that at all. About anybody’s job security.”

Eagles

  • Albert Breer reports that suspended Eagles OT Lane Johnson has filed unfair labor practice charges against the NFL and NFLPA after he was suspended 10-games for a positive test.
  • According to Breer, Johnson has also filed a complaint against the NFLPA with the Department of Labor under the Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Act.

Packers

  • Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk wonders if Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh would be interested in considering a return to the NFL next year if a team like the Packers had a head-coaching vacancy.
  • The Packers have been one of the most stable organizations in the NFL and have Aaron Rodgers in place as their quarterback, so the job could be in demand if it were to be available.
  • Of course, a number of reports have said that Packers HC Mike McCarthy is likely safe, despite the team’s struggles the past few years. (NFLTR)

Patriots

  • Darren Wolfson is hearing that the Patriots made a run at Vikings DE Stephen Weatherly in recent days, which explains why the team promoted him to their active roster.
