NFL Notes: Draft, 49ers, Bills, Browns, & Jaguars

Draft

  • An NFL scout tells Matt Miller of B/R that an NFL comparison for Ole Miss tackle Laremy Tunsil is Cowboys LT Tyron Smith. The scout added: “He’s Tyron 2.0. Big, mean, athletic. The total package.”
  • Multiple GMs tell Miller that they view year’s draft class as “flat,” which is that there is no can’t-miss player for the Titans to take at No. 1 overall.
  • NFL scouts anticipate that a quarterback will go No. 1 overall after someone trades up with the Titans, and the most common name suggested is Cal QB Jared Goff.
  • Miller lists Travis Feeney, LB, Washington, Deon Bush, FS, Miami (Fla.), Alex Lewis, T, Nebraska, Victor Ochi, DE, Stony Brook, Geronimo Allison, WR, Illinois and Kyle Carter, TE, Penn State as players who helped their draft stock at the East-West Shrine practices.

49ers

  • Albert Breer reports that two names being considered for the 49ers defensive coordinator job include LBs coach Jason Tarver and Ravens LBs coach Don Martindale.
  • Breer mentions that both candidates have prior defensive coordinator experience.

Bills

  • Bills GM Doug Whaley said he’d “love” to have WR Percy Harvin back next year, but added: “The first thing for Percy is that he has to get healthy.” (WGR 550 Buffalo)
  • Bills HC Rex Ryan told reporters that his brother, Rob, turned down NFL and college coordinator offers to coach in Buffalo. Rex added that Rob loves the Bills’ organization.
