NFL Notes: Draft, Bears, Packers, Saints, & Vikings

Draft

West Virginia WR Kevin White told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk earlier in the week that he has yet to hear from an NFL since the Scouting Combine.

“Until they call or I have a set workout schedule, I’m just going to continue to do what I have to do and wherever I do go, if I have a workout or prior workout, I’ll enjoy it and try to make the most out of it,” White said.

  • Omar Kelly has been told that NFL teams are likely to bring Georgia RB Todd Gurley (ACL) along slowly, which could mean placing him on the PUP list to begin the 2015 season.
  • Clemson DE/OLB Vic Beasley will visit with the Bears. (Charlie Campbell)
  • Mary Kay Cabot reports that the Browns will host Louisville WR DeVante Parker and Miami OT Ereck Flowers for pre-draft visits in the coming weeks.

Bears

  • Michael C. Wright believes there is “definitely a chance” that the Bears could come away from the first of this year’s draft with MSU CB Trae Waynes.

Packers

  • ESPN’s Rob Demovsky writes that Packers DT Mike Daniels and CB Casey Hayward could be next in line for long-term extensions. However, the recent contracts signed by free agents could offer an incentive to wait until free agency next year.
  • Demovsky mentions that even if Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon is still on the board at No. 30 overall, there’s almost no chance of them taking a running back.

Saints

  • According to Jason Cole of the Bleacher Report, Saints HC Sean Payton showed great interest in Baylor QB Bryce Petty and planned to work him out before this year’s draft.
  • Cole mentions that the odds of New Orleans drafting a quarterback are “fairly high” and have Petty on their as a potential target.

Vikings

  • Ben Goessling believes it would still make sense for the Vikings to sign S Harrison Smith to a long-term extension, even though they have a fifth-year option on him.
  • Goessling would be surprised to see the Vikings do anything with CB Josh Robinson‘s contract before the start of the season, but he doesn’t rule out an extension for K Blair Walsh.
  • Goessling considers Washington LB Shaq Thompson to be an intriguing option for the Vikings, given Mike Zimmer’s use of hybrid safety/linebacker.
