NFL Notes: Draft, Bills, Broncos & Redskins

Draft

  • Matt Miller of B/R writes that Alabama DE Jonathan Allen reminds him of Texans DE J.J. Watt due to his athleticism and playing style.
  • Miller has spoken to scouts who are raving about UCLA QB Josh Rosen’s NFL potential and believe he would be the No. 1 quarterback to be drafted in 2017 if he were eligible.
  • This probably doesn’t come as a huge surprise, but Miller considers Texas A&M DE Myles Garrett to be “a lock” to go in the first five picks.
  • One scout tells Miller that he believes Memphis LB Haason Reddick’s tape is “elite.”
  • An anonymous scout tells Miller that next year’s quarterback class “sucks”: Let me just be blunt—it sucks. You guys anointed [DeShone] Kizer way too soon. [Deshaun] Watson’s touch is really bad down the field. [Brad] Kaaya is [Teddy] Bridgewater 2.0. I don’t want any of these quarterbacks in the top 10 picks. But of course one of them will go early. You should probably go ahead and put Kizer there because the Browns are going to panic and draft him based on size and athleticism. But they shouldn’t. It’s just not a good class.

Bills

  • According to Bills GM Doug Whaley, the trade market has been “relatively quiet” up to this point but he thinks it will pick up after Sunday. (Mike Rodak)
  • Whaley mentioned that they would not hesitate to make a trade, saying: “We have flexibility to make a move, but it depends on how big the move is.” (Joe Buscaglia)
  • However, Whaley admitted that they don’t have cap space to add “a guy with a $14 million cap hit” such as Bears WR Alshon Jeffrey. (Mike Rodak)

Broncos

  • Broncos executive VP John Elway mentioned that they’re willing to “listen to everything” when it comes to the trade deadline and possibly adding someone to their roster, via DenverBroncos.com.
  • The Broncos swung a deal for TE A.J. Derby earlier in the week. (NFLTR)

Redskins

  • Redskins HC Jay Gruden announced that RB Matt Jones is out for Week 8’s game against the Bengals.
