Contracts

  • The Eagles signed DE Chris Long to a five-year, $11.25 million that includes a $500,000 signing bonus. Long stands to make a base salary of $1 million for the 2017 season and has $31,250 in per-game active roster bonuses. Giants

  • Ralph Vacchiano of SNY writes that the Giants appear to be ready to give second-year LB B.J. Goodson a shot at the starting middle linebacker job this season. However, HC Ben McAdoo indicated that he may have competition from Keenan Robinson.
  • Vacchiano mentions that it should not be assumed that the Giants will target an offensive lineman early in this year’s draft, even though they’ve looked at some prospects up to this point.

Jets

  • A team source tells Ralph Vacchiano of SNY that defensive linemen Sheldon Richardson and Muhammed Wilkerson were both fined “significant” amounts last season before they were benched for part of a game for their chronic lateness.
  • While HC Todd Bowles comes off as being tolerant publicly of these issues, several players have told Vacchiano that this isn’t the case behind the scenes.
  • Bowles told reporters this past week that free agent addition Kelvin Beachum will end up competing with Ben Ijalana for the left tackle job, even though it appeared as though they added Beachum to specifically fill that role.
  • Vacchiano mentions WR Eric Decker and S Marcus Gilchrist as two candidates for pay cuts in the coming months. Although, Vacchiano adds that it’s also possibly that they could be release candidates.
