NFL Notes: Draft, Corey Liuget, Tyler Eifert

Draft

  • Tom Pelissero reports that NFL teams received a memo Friday that Jeffery Simmons, Jaylon Ferguson and Preston Williams will now be allowed to participate in limited interviews at the Combine on Wednesday in addition to medical evaluations.
  • However, Pelissero says that Simmons will not be able to attend the combine because of his ACL surgery.
  • According to Matt Miller of B/R, Florida RT Jawaan Taylor is receiving enough buzz right that he could end up being a top-10 pick.
  • An NFL executive tells Miller that Iowa TE Noah Fant is nothing more than a big receiver: “He’s going to test well [at the combine], but he’s nothing more than a big receiver. If you liked Evan Engram, you’ll like him.
  • A long-time NFL scout finds the talk of N.C. State QB Ryan Finley being a top-five quarterback in this class to be crazy: “It’s hilarious to see some of you in the media hanging on to the Ryan Finley hype. Just like Nathan Peterman or Ryan Nassib. He’s not good.”

Corey Liuget

Free agent DT Corey Liuget says he’ll re-sign with the Chargers if they make him a good offer.

“Yeah, that’s exactly what I’m thinking,” Liuget told Sirius XM NFL Radio. “If the Chargers come and offer me something here, within the next couple weeks before free agency and if it’s good enough, I’ll take it. But if not, I’m fine with going to hit the open market.”

However, Liuget is open to playing for whoever wants him.

“I know there’s somebody and there’s a team somewhere that believes in me,” Liuget said. “So whether it’s the L.A. Chargers or the Oakland Raiders, I don’t care. Whoever wants me, I’ll go.

Tyler Eifert

In an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio, Bengals free agent TE Tyler Eifert said that he’s “pretty close” to being ready to return to the practice field following a season-ending ankle injury.

While he’s dealt with some serious injuries since entering the NFL, Eifert says there isn’t much could have done about the “freak injuries.”

“Obviously it’s something I have to deal with and something I have to answer to because it is a part of my history,” Eifert said. “It’s tough, though, because there’s nothing I could do to prevent what is happening. Pretty freak injuries.
