NFL Notes: Draft, Jaguars, Patriots

Draft

  • Tony Pauline reports that the belief right now is that the lowest Western Kentucky G Forrest Lamp will drop is to the Falcons at No. 31 overall.
  • Sources tell Pauline that the Seahawks would likely jump at the chance to draft Eastern Carolina WR Isaiah Jones in the second round if he ends up being available to them.
  • Ben Volin of the Boston Globe notes that a number of first-round prospects have concerns, including LSU RB Leonard Fournette (ankle), Alabama DL Jonathan Allen (shoulder),  Washington WR John Ross (knee), Ohio State S Malik Hooker (hip), Ohio State CB Marshon Lattimore (hamstring), and Alabama LB Reuben Foster‘s diluted urine sample at the NFL Combine.

Jaguars

Former NFL executive Mike Lombardi said there is no chance that the Jaguars would exercise QB Blake Bortles‘ fifth-year option.

Decide? There’s no deciding. Are you kidding me? My wife can decide that’s not going to happen,” said Lombardi, via Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union. Blake Bortles’ parents know that’s not going to happen. Who’s going to pay him $18 million? I have a better chance of becoming [general manager] of the [L.A.] Clippers than that of happening.”

ESPN analyst Jon Gruden believes the Jaguars and OC Nate Hacketthas his hands full” with Bortles this season.

“I think Nate Hackett has his hands full,” said Gruden. “Bortles has a lot of pressure on him. He’s got to play better. That’s the bottom line. To do that, they need to have a better [run/pass] balance in their offense and they have to protect better.

“It starts with the protection and with running the football and fixing some of his mechanics, which were clearly flawed later in the year.”

Patriots

  • Ben Volin writes that Patriots RB James White‘s new four-year, $12.69 contract is essentially a two-year deal, then New England will see if they want to keep him on the roster.
  • Volin believes White’s deal is cap-friendly enough for him to complete all four years of the deal.
