NFL Notes: Draft, Jay Cutler, Russell Wilson, & Bears

Draft

  • Rand Getlin reports that Florida State DT Eddie Goldman is “leaning heavily” towards entering the 2015 NFL draft.
  • Indiana RB Tevin Coleman is “strongly considering” entering the 2015 NFL Draft. (Rand Getlin)

Jay Cutler

  • Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk writes that the Bears decision to bench Jay Cutler is likely to prevent him from sustaining an injury that would “derail a plan to trade or cut the quarterback.”
  • Mike Silver of NFL Media reports that HC Marc Trestman felt he could no longer play Cutler “simply to justify a contract” when his performance was so poor.
  • Dan Hanzus of NFL.com lists the Titans, Buccaneers, Rams, Bears, Bills, Browns, Redskins and Jets in that order as potential landing spots for him next year.

Russell Wilson

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Seahawks QB Russell Wilson is firing Bus Cook as his agents, despite being eligible for a new deal after this season.

A source close to Wilson said Cook was not fired, but simply the quarterback was making a change,” Schefter writes.

According to Schefter, Wilson is likely to hire baseball agent Mark Rodgers.

Bears

  • According to Jeff Dickerson of ESPN Chicago, “there is genuine disbelief” inside Bears’ locker room regarding the decision to bench QB Jay Cutler given that OC Aaron Kromer received just a slap on the wrist.
  • Dickerson adds that there are a number of players inside the locker room who are “confused and uncomfortable with how these situations were handled.”
