NFL Notes: Eagles, Giants, Packers, Saints

Eagles

  • Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com wonders if a Mark Ingram for Jason Kelce trade could make sense for the Eagles and Saints now that New Orleans will be without C Max Unger for the start of the 2017 season (NFLTR).
  • The Saints signed Adrian Peterson to a contract and later traded up in round two to get Alvin Kamara, so they’ve clearly invested in the position beyond Ingram.
  • New Orleans was also in contact with the Eagles earlier this offseason WR Brandin Cooks, so the two teams have somewhat of a history working on potential deals.

Giants

Giants G Justin Pugh, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, mentioned that he has been keeping an eye on the recent free agent contracts handed out to guards.

Do you even know who some of those guys are that were getting paid?” Pugh asked, via Dan Duggan of NJ.com. “I feel good about where I’m at.

In the past few months, Kevin Zeitler landed a five-year, $60 million contract from the Browns, who also handed out a six-year, $51.2 million deal to Joel Bitonio, so it’s easy to see why Pugh is feeling good about where he sits right now.

“The guard market has gone up,” Pugh said. “I definitely have taken notice. I’ve seen what these guys are getting. I’ve seen guys that I came in with. That’s just part of this game. It’s part of the business of it. It’s the tough part of it, but in this league, if you go out and you produce, you get paid.

Packers

  • Tom Silverstein of Packersnews.com writes if the Packers determine they have something in backup QB Joe Callahan and BYU undrafted QB Taysom Hill, it possible they could make Brett Hundley available for trade this summer and potential acquire a draft pick or player for him.
  • According to Silverstein, Hill displayed a “cannon arm” in practice and has the running ability would make him a good fit in Mike McCarthy’s offense. However, Silverstein admits that Hill isn’t close to being a finished product and will still need to prove he can stay healthy.
  • It’s worth mentioning that the Packers reported made Hundley available for trade during the draft and nearly completed a deal on Day 2. (NFLTR)

Saints

  • Ian Rapoport mentions that Senio Kelemete is a strong option to replace Max Unger at center now that Unger will miss the start of the 2017 season.
  • Nick Underhill notes that Kelemete will earn $200,000 if he plays 50, 60 and 70 percent of the snaps for a total of $600,000.
