NFL Notes: Eagles, Jets, Rams, Steelers

Eagles

  • Zach Berman believes the Eagles should still hold onto C Jason Kelce for the 2017 season, despite a recent report that he could be a cap casualty.
  • Berman points out that the Eagles could gain cap relief elsewhere and they shouldn’t disrupt their offensive line in multiple spots.
  • Even so, Berman admits that the Eagles are high on Isaac Seumalo and a decision could come down to whether Seumalo offers more value this season at guard or center.

Jets

  • Rich Cimini writes that the Jets’ offensive-coordinator search is approaching the four-week mark, but indications are that HC Todd Bowles could be waiting for a certain candidate.
  • Cimini tosses out Falcons QBs coach Matt LaFleur as someone Bowles could be waiting to interview for the job. As of now, the only two known candidates are former Texans OC George Godsey and Saints WRs coach John Morton.

Rams

Rams GM Les Snead said impending free-agent CB Trumaine Johnson will “probably” be “one of the top priorities” for the Rams this offseason.

That will be a big decision. Wade, like a lot of [defensive coordinators], likes good players on the outside. Trumaine fits that category…. Trumaine is a larger guy with good ball skills and all things like that,” said Snead, via Gary Klein of the LA Times. “Is it a square in a square, a triangle in a triangle or more a rectangle in a square?  … That’s probably one of the top priorities when Wade walks in the door because, obviously, the magnitude of what his contract will look like and the magnitude of what another franchise tag looks like and everything in between.”

As for impending free agent WR Kenny Britt, Snead said the team still needs to evaluate if he will fit into the team’s offensive scheme for 2017 and if he can sign “at the right price.”

We have a new scheme. He had his best year. Now you’re going to come back and decide does he fit. If he does, what kind of price and does that fit the model? And again that’s going to be working with the offensive staff to try and figure that out,” said Snead.

Snead also said he plans on addressing the offense when asked about the team’s what the team’s largest needs.

We’ve got to figure out how to improve the offense and how that looks and what position groups you start attacking first,” said Snead. We want to move the ball, we want to get first downs and we want to score points. That’s going to be addressed at all angles.”

Steelers

  • Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writes that WR Antonio Brown‘s antics are “wearing thin” on the Steelers’ coaching staff and his teammates.
  • This will be interesting to watch moving forward, considering that the Steelers are expected to open negotiations with him on a long-term extension during the offseason. (NFLTR)
  • According to Bouchette, it’s possible the Steelers could part ways with TE Ladarius Green this offseason.
