NFL Notes: Eagles, Lions & Steelers

Eagles

  • According to Matt Lombardo of NJ.com, No. 2 overall pick QB Caron Wentz appeared to be ahead of Sam Bradford during the first few OTA practices last week when it can to learning Doug Pederson’s offense.

Lions

Lions second-year CB Alex Carter, who missed his entire rookie season, admitted that he’s “fighting to earn a spot on this defense,” via the Detroit Free Press.

Dave Birkett mentions that there are already a number of roster spots accounted for at cornerback, considering that Darius Slay and Nevin Lawson are locked in as starters with Quandre Diggs as their nickelback. Beyond that, Birkett considers Johnson Bademosi to be guaranteed a spot due to his special teams ability.

I watched the defense last year and I was in the meetings and I kind of know where I fit in,” Carter said. “So I just want to fit in and make sure that our defense is strong, our team is strong and that we can win some games.”

Steelers

Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review writes that this could be veteran LB Lawrence Timmons final season with the Steelers.

Timmons is currently in the final year of his contract and carries a staggering cap figure of $15.1 million, which is the second highest on the team. Kaboly admits that with Timmons still playing at a high level, he would seem to be a candidate for an extension.

However, the Steelers aren’t in desperate need for money, and could be reluctant to add more years to his contract.

Should Pittsburgh move on from Timmons next year, Kaboly points to Vince Williams as someone who could take over for Timmons.

Whatever happens, happens,” Timmons said. “It is a business. I am just going to show up and do the best that I can. It is not about the money, it is about the love of the game. I am not petty like that. I am not about that. I am not about the money, I am about the team.”
